On March 11, 2020 the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a global pandemic infecting more than 4.2M people and leading to over 288,000 deaths in over 212 countries. By April 7th, 95% of all Americans (306M) were ordered to shelter in place. As the shutdown is lifted, there must be a process to safely bring Americans back to work.
We formed Kahala Biosciences LLC, right here in Irvine, California, with the sole purpose of empowering employers to bring their employees safely back to work, by providing an end-to-end solution that facilitates rapid diagnostic testing for all employees, as well as those at high risk of contracting or transmitting the virus (health care workers).


John Tanner brings to Kahala Biosciences extensive knowledge of both strategic and commercial marketing in the medical device and diagnostics space. He has held senior-level roles at S&P 500 companies and advanced technology startups, where his focus—and passion—has been bringing innovative therapies and diagnostics to unserved patient populations.

Francis is an accomplished entrepreneur, corporate executive, heart surgeon, research scientist, and medical innovator. Double board-certified in general surgery (UCSF) and cardiothoracic surgery (Duke), he was Assistant Professor at Duke University School of Medicine.

Ray Chan is a prominent investor who has been recognized as one of Orange County Business Journal’s most influential business leaders since 2017. Ray is the co-founder and Managing Director of K5 Ventures and has been leading county-wide efforts to build the tech and startup ecosystem within Orange County throughout the past decade.

Michael Miyamoto, MD, MBA is a medical device entrepreneur, startup founder, and practicing cardiologist. His expertise spans multiple domains. He maintains an active clinical practice, with a focus on the care of the advanced heart failure patient, cardiac imaging, and preventive cardiology.

Stephen has 25 years of extensive experience in financial operations management in the consumer-packaged goods industry. He has successfully built and led finance teams with Del Monte Foods and Safeway, Inc.

Lauren is a seasoned executive in the Regulatory and Clinical Research field. Currently, Lauren is the Founder and Global Head of Strategy at Avania Clinical (formerly BBA). She has a background in Engineering (BS, Chemical Engineering; MS and PhD in Mechanical Engineering) and worked in Academic Cardiac Medicine with a concentration in cardiac and biofluid mechanics.

Mei is a medical device consultant and angel investor with a passion for transformative patient-centered solutions. She is preeminently experienced in driving forward the adoption of disruptive medical innovations, including life-saving Class III devices.

Michael Yousef brings a wealth of experience within healthcare including his role as an Executive Director, Global Sales, Marketing & Operations for a worldwide distributor specializing in medical imaging equipment solutions, service, and repair.

Dov has over 30 years of medical device experience in industry and academia. Dov currently runs Regulatory, Quality and Clinical Affairs at ClearFlow, Inc. Earlier roles include leading Clinical Affairs for the Heart Valve Therapy business at Edwards Lifesciences, and at Broncus Technologies, a start-up developing a minimally invasive device-drug combination product for treating patients with severe chronic lung disease.
